Our 7th Annual Author Talk will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at 7pm. This year’s speaker will be Gesine Bullock-Prado from Hartford, Vermont. She is the author of a baking memoir, “My Life From Scratch”, and 3 cookbooks: “Sugar Baby”, “Pie it Forward”, and “Bake it Like You Mean It”. Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEW VERMONT HUMANITIES COUNCIL READING/DISCUSSION SERIES:
titled “World War II: The Loss of the Age of Innocence” will begin on Wednesday, April 10th at 7pm, led by Barbara Mieder. The books are Joseph Heller’s ”Catch-22”, “Rumors of Peace” by Ella Leffland (April 24th)and Elie Wiesel’s “Night” (May 8th). These novels richly illustrate coming-of-age themes against the backdrop of World War II with 3 memorable protagonists- an Army bombardier, a girl on the American homefront, and a teenage survivor of the Nazi genocide. Books are now available at the library!

New Passes at the Library
In addition to our other passes listed below, we now have ones for Vermont's History Museum in Montpelier, The Shelburne Museum and also for The Billings Farm and Museum in Woodstock. These and all our passes are available to South Hero residents.

The SHCL is virtually never closed! You can down download audio books to your PC, MP3 device (or iPod),burn titles to a cd OR TO YOUR KINDLE with Listen Up! Vermont. Instruction sheets are at the library so you can download titles there OR at home instructions are also available to take with you. Or visit http://www.listenupvermont.org/. Vermont State Parks and Historic Sites Passes
A Vermont State Parks Pass will once again be available at the library for patrons to check out. This pass admits one vehicle holding up to eight people to any Vermont state day park for one day. In addition, the Vermont Historic Sites pass is also available for loan this year. This pass admits one family or group up to eight people for one day to any Vermont Historic Site. These pass programs will begin after Memorial Day when the parks and historic sites open. Please call the library with any questions.

BARB'S BACKPACKS: In honor of retired Library Trustee chairman, Barb Carter, the SHCL now has 4 backpacks filled with books to read, puzzles and games to play with, and music to listen to. The backpacks are theme based and best suited for 3 to 5 year olds. The 5 themes are Transportation/Vehicles, Farmyard Animals, Dogs and Puppies, Zoo/Wild Animals, and Teddy Bears. Come on in and check them out!!
